New
A two-day online course for staff who investigate reports of harassment, hate, and sexual misconduct in UK higher education. It is open to individuals, so you can book one place or a few, rather than arranging training for a whole team.
The course is based on our two-day investigation training for institutions.

What the course covers
The course prepares you to plan and carry out fair, impartial, and trauma-informed investigations. It draws on research on trauma, investigative practice, and procedural fairness. A sexual misconduct case study runs across both days, and you will work on it in small groups.
Content note
The case study describes an allegation of sexual misconduct. The course opens with a content note, and support information is provided. You are welcome to take a break at any time.
Day one
- Context and regulation: the framework that applies to your institution, and what it expects of investigations
- The investigator’s role: responsibilities, impartiality, and the limits of the role
- Planning the investigation: scope and terms of reference, evidence planning, risk, and safeguarding
- Trauma-informed practice: understanding trauma, setting aside myths, and working in a way that does not cause further harm
Day two
- Interviewing: PEACE-based interviewing with reporting parties, responding parties, and witnesses
- Evidence and analysis: weighing evidence, credibility and reliability, and the balance of probabilities
- The report and the outcome: clear findings, sound reasoning, and communicating the outcome well
- Panel, appeal, and afterwards: presenting findings, the appeal stage, learning from cases, and continuing development
The regulatory content is tailored to where the people attending work. For example, it covers the Office for Students (OfS) and the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) for institutions in England.

What clients and trainees say
It was a really informative and engaging programme for both our newer and more experienced investigators, with a great mix of theory, discussion and practical exercises. Most importantly, it was genuinely relevant to the work we do in higher education, which made the learning easy to connect with our day-to-day practice. I’d happily recommend this training to any team involved in investigations or casework.
Student conduct, discipline and complaints manager, Welsh university (public LinkedIn post)
Brilliant balance between presenting and slides. Jenny was really knowledgeable and engaging, and the process plans will help me approach investigations with confidence.
Investigation training participant, English university
The practices, principles, and PEACE techniques were really useful and easy to apply.
